Helping Develop New Photographers

If you’ve ever wanted to be a photographer, all it takes is a good eye … and a little advice from the pros. Allison Marie Wollenhaupt, wedding photographer, has plenty of tricks she’s willing to share. The owner of Allison Marie Photography in Briarcliff has published work in major wedding publications. In a relatively short time, she’s built a reputation as one of Kansas City’s most successful wedding shutterbugs. Now, she’s taking the next step: helping others who want to do what she does.

Allison Marie’s Core Workshop will launch November 1-2 at the photographer’s in-home studio. Described as a “two-day business and photography workshop,” the program will offer both artistic and nuts-and-bolts advice for starting (or growing) a photography studio. Aimed at photographers with a range of professional experience–from working artists to hobbyists trying to break in–topics will include lighting, posing, branding, workflow, studio organization, client experience, and pricing for a profit.

Wollenhaupt hopes photographers will leave with “a notebook full of techniques, ideas and action steps, as well as connections with other photographers.” Because the networking piece is so important, space is limited in order to create a small-group environment. Equally important is an opportunity for participants to build their portfolio by participating in a styled shoot at the Villa of Kansas City. “There will be a styled reception table, brimming with garden-themed details, as well as a gorgeous bride and groom,” Wollenhaupt says.

Cost for the two-day workshop is $900, which includes instruction, the styled wedding shoot, lunch, dinner  and snacks both days, a workshop notebook and giveaways. Participants from outside the Kansas City Metro will need to provide lodging and transportation. Everyone should bring a laptop with editing software, SLR camera, one to two lenses, and a flash.

For more information or to sign up, visit the workshop website. Registration ends Oct. 1.

Little Things: The Art of Weddings

Wedding photographer Allison Marie regularly shares her portfolio with customers. Of course, every bride is stunning and every groom is handsome–just as it should be on a couple’s wedding day. But amid the shots of bridal parties in locations ranging from churches to vineyards to the Boulevard Brewery, Allison Marie manages to capture the small things that make every wedding unique. All the little things that make up your special day.
Here are some images from a recent shoot Allison completed at Weston Red Barn Farm. You can see exactly what kind of wedding it was from a few simple shots–the personality of the bride and groom, and what it must have felt like to be present. Allison’s talent is in capturing these small moments. She sees beauty in everything around her.

From the Photo Blog of Allison Marie

Aubrey has been a dear friend of mine for the past couple years; she is a woman I admire in every way. She began dating Dana shortly before Grant and I moved to Kansas City, and I clearly remember her gushing about how amazing he was. She went on and on about how he made her laugh and feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. Even though I only got to hang out with them a couple times, it was perfectly obvious that they were meant for each other. Aubrey absolutely glows around Dana, and he thinks the world of her. A perfect combination.

Their wedding day was perfect. It was a great honor for me to be an integral part. Aubrey’s dress was so lovely, all covered in lace with an amazing back!

Oh my goodness, I was in love with her flowers.

Hello, gorgeous.

You could not be more perfect together!

These pretty bridesmaid dresses? Made by a friend. Amazing!
